Would you consider a different type of bonus?
Corporations today face many new challenges financially. Recently I’ve been thinking of a new metric managers can use when bonus time nears… I propose virtual commuting! The money saved from traveling into the office is a VERY good bonus when translated into a dollar figure. Lets break it down shall we?
Yearly commute expenses
- Train/Subway Pass
- Gasoline/Automotive repairs/Tolls/Parking
- Dry cleaning/Apparel purchases
- Eating out for lunch
Also consider the cost savings if the company leases less office space. Today’s technology allows employees to work from home effectively with VPN connections, web meetings, email, VOIP, messenger applications etc… Most institutions already use these tools so really why isn’t this happening? I think it’s time we let go of the 20th century attitude of “a body in the office” and get serious.
WELCOME TO THE NEW AGE (only a few years behind…)
